flodome
The
flodome was a 30" dome that created an immersive 180 degree
field of view when viewed from the center of the dome. The image
was projected from the outside of the dome and wrapped around
the surface. The preferred format was a fisheye image, but
normal aspect images worked almost as well, with some distortion
at the edges. Peripheral vision doesn't care about distortion,
just presence and motion.

The most
interesting application of the dome was for the study of the
neuroethology of insect flight, by Jack Gray at the University
of Saskatchewan. This is his
site.
In 2004, the
dome was licensed to Virtra Systems for use in promotional
systems. They call it the Immersa-Dome. This is their
site. |
